Halfords launch new initiatives to help ease the rising cost of motoring for consumers

  • Motoring retailer shares new price commitments to support customers during cost-of-living crisis
  • Measures include price drops on thousands of essentials, an enhanced price promise with Autocentres up to 25% cheaper than dealerships and a pledge to never be beaten on the price of tyres
  • New measures are alongside £14 million investment in their free to join Halfords Motoring Club
  • Chief Customer Officer, Karen Bellairs, says it’s the brand’s “duty to help drivers across the country motor for less”

With inflation hitting record levels at 9.4 percent and interest rates reaching their highest since December 2008, Halfords has today announced a raft of innovative new initiatives to help UK consumers with the rising cost of motoring.

Wallets are being squeezed by unprecedented hikes in food prices, rising energy bills and the price of petrol at the pumps making the UK one of the most expensive places to fill up in Europe. A new Office for National Statistics (ONS) survey revealed that nine in 10 adults, or 46 million people, are worse off and having to cut spending because of rising bills*. Furthermore, Halfords own research shows that one in six drivers are trying to spend as little as possible on their motoring purchases**. In recognition of these challenging times, the UK’s leading motoring products and services retailer has published new price commitments to drive better value for its customers.

Halfords has dropped prices across all motoring categories, from wiper blades to batteries to car seats and motoring technology ensuring that products remain accessible and affordable for all.

Customers signed up to Halfords’ Premium Motoring Club membership can benefit from an additional five per cent pricing discount on top of these new lower prices, alongside a range of other benefits that keep members motoring for less. Launched in March, Halfords Motoring Club perks include a £5 welcome voucher, £10 off an MOT and a free 10-point check (usually costing £15) – these benefits have already put almost £14,000,000 of savings directly back into the member’s pockets.

The brand has also taken steps to strengthen its price promise, committing to ‘Never Be Beaten on Price’ on even more motoring essentials. Halfords monitor competitors daily and adjust pricing accordingly so that customers can be confident they’re getting the very best deal on child seats, in-car tech, tyres, fitted bulbs, fitted wipers and fitted batteries, and if they do find a better price elsewhere then the retailer will refund the difference.

Finally, it’s not just products and in-store services that Halfords has committed to provide more competitive pricing. Ahead of Autumn’s peak MOT season, the company has pledged that at its 600 Autocentres across the UK will provide best-in-class MOTs and car servicing at prices that are up to 25% cheaper than other car dealerships. As well as a pledge to never be beaten on the price of tyres. Customers can also enjoy an extended two-year warranty on all parts and labour to give ultimate peace of mind.

Karen Bellairs, Chief Customer Officer at Halfords comments: “The cost-of-living crisis is impacting each and every one of us every single day. In a study conducted this week 44% of respondents are ‘feeling ‘terrified about their finances’***. At Halfords, we see it as our duty to help drivers motor for less, and that’s why we’ve worked so hard to reduce prices across thousands of motoring essentials, strengthen our Price Match guarantee and made a new pledge that our Autocentres will always be up to 25% cheaper than car dealerships. We know this won’t solve the problem entirely, but it’s our hope that it goes a considerable distance to help motorists up and down the country to stay safe on the road when they need us most.”

The new initiatives serve to further strength Halfords commitment to provide the best value possible to its customers. They sit alongside existing value propositions including a raft of free motoring checks completed by Halfords expert technicians (Free 5 Point Check, Free Tyre Check, Free Battery Health Check and Free Steering Check), discounts when booking multiple services together and our long term relationship with Klarna helps customers spread the costs of purchases supporting customer accessing solutions that best meets their requirements.
