Halfords is offering customers 10% off any new bike when they donate their old one at any of Halfords’ 459 shops between Tuesday, 9th and Sunday, 21st May.

Donated bikes will be sent to charity cycle partners Re-Cycle and the Krizevac Project, who both work to create employment opportunities, transport and sustainable solutions to those less fortunate across Africa.

The campaign will also see many children’s bikes re-conditioned at Halfords’ two prison bike academies, HMP Onley and HMP Drake Hall, where they will then be donated to disadvantaged schools across the UK. The academies offer offenders the opportunity to train as bike mechanics, creating the prospect of permanent employment.

Catherine Fenton, cycle services expert at Halfords said, “We think riding our bikes is to keep fit and healthy, but for many a bike is so much more than that. This initiative shows that even an old bike can really make a difference and change someone’s life, whether in the UK or in Africa.

“Not only can our customers get 10% off a new bike, but they can also know their old bike has gone to a fantastic cause that is transforming lives. In the last four years we’ve sent 30,000 bikes to worthy causes. ”

All bikes that are in a reasonable condition, including kids’ bikes, will be accepted provided they are complete with no cracks in the frame and less than 25% rust.
