As a result Halfords launches own range

A new study by motoring retailer Halfords has shown that the number of motorists using dash cams has soared. The retailer polled 2,000 motorists and 16% claimed to own a dash cam. According to retail analyst GfK sales have risen by six hundred per cent in the last three years. As a result the retailer is about to launch four own brand models on April 17th.

The research also shows that 28% of motorists think having a dash cam installed would improve their driving performance. In addition 32% feel much safer on the roads when driving with a dash cam.

The growing demand for in car cameras is also being fuelled by keeping car insurance costs down, with 29% admitting that is the main reason for their purchase. 17% of those surveyed would also be more careful when driving with one.

Daniel Tomson, Halfords’s car technology expert says: “We’ve seen a massive increase in the sale of dash cams. A big leap in technology has now put them within reach of most budgets and its one key motoring trend that shows no signs of slowing down. Not only do they help guard against dangerous drivers and ‘crash for cash’ scams, they can even help protect your no claims bonus. Having one will soon become as standard as wearing a seat belt.”

Halfords also offers a fitting service for £30, where it can be hardwired directly to a car’s electronics system, meaning it will automatically turn on when driving, freeing up the 12v outlet for other devices: http://www.halfords.com/advice/technology/service/halfords- dash-cam-fitting-service.
