Free Bike Checks Amid Tube Strike

Free bike checks at Halfords ahead of tube strike

Move comes as almost half of adults (46%) admit they can’t perform basic bike checks

Ahead of Monday’s tube strike, Halfords is making it easier for everyone to get on their bikes by hosting free bike checks, at all of its shops across the capital.

The campaign means Halfords colleagues will check brakes, gears, wheels, tyres and chains and offer expert advice on bike maintenance and cycling, giving cyclists peace of mind throughout the day.

YouGov research recently undertaken by the retailer shows that almost 50% of adults aren’t confident when it comes to performing basic checks such as repairing punctures, oiling chains and pumping tyres. But it does seem being older makes you wiser - 55% of those aged 45+ are quite confident at carrying out basic repairs.

Halfords’ cycling expert Andy Whitehall says: “When our research showed that almost half of all adults weren’t confident at checking their bikes and this combined with the tube strike we knew we had to help and provide an opportunity to help give them peace of mind and enjoy their cycling experience.”

There’s no need to book, just turn up with your bike.
