Month-Long Initiative Means Motorists Can Bag an (Almost-Free) MOT

The month-long initiative has been introduced as research by the retailer reveals 16 per cent of motorists say that an MOT is one of their biggest expenses when it comes to owning a car. The poll of 2,000 also revealed that 53 per cent of drivers said they were unaware of their car’s MOT date and 16 per cent have even put off getting a fault checked until their next scheduled service.

The survey also found that 66 per cent of motorists don’t make preparations for an MOT until a month before it is due, while 25 per cent leave it until less than a fortnight to go.

Now Halfords is making it easier. The offer applies to any product sold at a Halfords shop. It means a customer could buy a £1.49 Little Trees Air Freshener and then claim their MOT for free from Halfords Autocentres. To redeem it in store customers will be given a voucher email and asked to fill in their details online, while online shoppers will be given a leaflet with a voucher code with their order.

The initiative runs from 10th Sept until 14th October, and coincides with the second busiest month of the year for MOT tests. This month will see nearly half a million cars require their first MOT. September 2015 saw 462,517 cars hit the road for the first time, and with those cars now turning three years old they are due their first MOT.

A Halfords spokesperson says: "It’s clear from our research that MOT tests are one of the biggest expenses that drivers face and this is one of the reasons we introduced this deal in September, one of the busiest times for MOT testing. We would encourage anyone shopping at Halfords to take advantage of this offer as it will keep our roads safer, help drivers with their costs and means they can keep their cars on the road.
