Halfords launch first Autocentres

The first Halfords Autocentres have been launched. The three sites in Derby and one in Solihull previously traded as Nationwide Autocentres, a business Halfords acquired in February for £73.2 million.

The new Halfords Autocentres logo and orange colour scheme have now replaced exterior and interior signage, staff uniforms and customer communications. After a period of trial the new branding will be rolled out across the other 221 autocentres in the estate.

Halfords Autocentres offer motorists MOTs, repairs and servicing at affordable prices. The Group plans to double the size of the network with a further 200 centres over the next few years and create 1000 new jobs.

“This is an historic step for Halfords and our customers,” commented David Wild, CEO of Halfords, “We are well known as the leading car parts retailer and this move brings us into the garage servicing business. We are set to grow our presence significantly in this sector. We will become both a familiar landmark and the company that many motorists turn to, to keep their cars running and help reduce the cost of motoring.”

Car maintenance is a £9 billion market sector dominated by independent operators. However, garage capacity is shrinking as the number of businesses declines. Halfords believes there is a strong demand from motorists for a quality national independent network of garages. Their centres offer MOTs, car and light van servicing and repairs at more affordable prices and focus on providing a high level of customer service.

Garage services will also be cross marketed to Halfords retail customers. Visitors to the Halfords store in Derby will be offered savings on car servicing, repairs and MOTs at the new Autocentres.
