As we move forward into a new era for retail - in which the use and protection of people’s personal data is of increasing focus - so we at Halfords are ever-more committed to safeguarding information about our customers and colleagues with optimum effectiveness.
In making this commitment, I commend both the EU-General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) and the UK’s Data Protection Act, which together seek to enforce more rigorous data privacy across Europe.
However, in order to meet the challenges which this new legislation will bring, we need the support and contribution of everyone at Halfords. This ranges from the Board, which has ultimate responsibility for ensuring compliance with the new standards, through to our colleagues in stores and Autocentres across the UK and Ireland, who deal with customer data on a daily basis.
Over the last year, we have undertaken significant work to improve our policies and practices in data management, and will continue to develop this programme over the coming months and years.
